screenings

The five screenings that matter most after 35
Most heart-disease, cancer, and metabolic-disease deaths are statistically preventable. The catch is they're preventable by a small set of screenings — many of which patients skip because nothing hurts.
The short list
- Lipid panel + ApoB, every 1–2 years. Standard cholesterol misses a lot; ApoB is the single most predictive cardiovascular marker.
- Fasting glucose + HbA1c, annually. Catches metabolic drift years before a diabetes diagnosis.
- Skin check, annually after 40 (sooner if family history). Melanoma is curable when caught early.
- Colonoscopy, baseline at 45, then per your physician.
- DEXA / bone density, baseline at 50 (women) / 60 (men) and earlier if at risk.
What about the others?
Eye exams, dental cleanings, blood pressure check-ins, and PSA / mammogram timing all matter — but the five above carry the most weight in healthspan terms.
